Vicky Devine is one of the leading Trance DJ’s, she has been a guest DJ at many bars and clubs in Ibiza (and the rest of the world) and is currently a resident DJ at Judgement Sundays in Ibiza. We took the time to have a word with her …

You have played in clubs worldwide, what makes Ibiza so special?
Just having so many superclubs within such close proximity to each other on the island as well as all the biggest DJ’s in the world visiting every summer. In addition you always find artists holding onto tracks to road test in Ibiza so its great to hear tunes being played for the first time out there and watching them build throughout the summer. And then obviously the thousands of clubbers that visit each year just give the island such a magical atmosphere along with the weather, food and beach lifestyle. I love being a part of all of that, and those are just a few of the reasons Ibiza is so special to me.

What is the best night you have had in Ibiza?
So many nights at Judgement Sundays have been the best times for me. Obviously as a resident its amazing to play there, but for me the atmosphere is just amongst the best that you will find on the island.

You also play in Magaluf, how do they compare?
I held a residency at BCM in Majorca for 6 years but I now just play in Ibiza during the summer. As a superclub, BCM is amongst the greatest in the world and it was a privilege to play there so many times. Magaluf differs slightly from Ibiza in that BCM dominates the scene there with it being the biggest and having the best lineups, and the atmosphere is just as amazing as you’ll find in any Ibiza club. Ibiza though is more of a spiritual home for me as I have lived there whereas I have never lived in Majorca.

You have been playing at Judgement Sundays since 2005, tell us a bit about your time as a resident DJ.
Yes this will be my 7th season as a resident for Judgement and I can’t wait to get going again. I actually went to the very first Judgement Sundays back in 2000 as a clubber, and I remember being stood on the dancefloor saying to myself that I’d love to be a resident there one day. I was given the opportunity of some guest slots in 2004, and the residency came about following those. As I said at the beginning, I’ve had the most amazing times at Judgement and long may it continue.

What is it like being a female DJ in Ibiza?
Probably the same as being a male DJ in Ibiza – their just aren’t as many of us! lol I loved Ibiza from the first moment I arrived on the island, and its a 2nd home to me now as it is for all of us that go back there to work and DJ every summer.

Tell us about Charlys Angelz.
Charlys Angelz is an event that I have been working on in Ibiza for the past 10 years. It was originally launched back in 2001 with the intention of showcasing female DJ’s and musicians, and to basically provide a platform for up and coming female artists. As well as running as a weekly event in Ibiza, it has also run as tour nights around the world, and I’ve had some amazing adventures DJing at and helping to promote the events over the years. You’ll see some special one off Charlys Angelz events in Ibiza in 2011.

Is there anything new for 2011?
Lots!! I currently have four tracks scheduled for release – two are collaborations (Forgotten Lies with Marcos and Lunar Love with Nick Larson) and two are remixes (Steve Allen and Mr Careful’s “Conduit” and Proyal’s “Tehran Highways”. I am also working on 3 new solo projects right now, two of which are remixes of quite recognisable tunes and the other one which will be a follow up to my previous release “Outrider”. I definitely want those ready to road test in the summer. I also have a podcast alongside DJ Hayley Parsons which is now broadcasting on Sense FM and Dance Radio Global, plus it goes out as a podcast once a month so have been working hard on that with some new features being incorporated. And then I also run a company with my fiance which provides Digital Media Services to the music industry and beyond.
